Six companies in Tokyo Prime Market, including all 3 “Mega-banks” face climate shareholder resolutions
Today, climate-related shareholder resolutions have been announced targeting Japan’s largest banks and energy corporations. A coalition of environment organisations and shareholders have filed the resolutions calling for greater disclosure by the companies on how they will meet their net zero commitments. Resolutions have been filed to three Japanese mega banks and three energy giants.

56 groups from 29 countries opposed to Japan’s promotion of False Solution – Japanese Government should commit to ending fossil fuel finance at COP27
Ahead of the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) to be held in Egypt from November 6, 2022, 56 organizations from 29 countries have submitted a letter to Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to stop promoting false solutions against climate change and commit to ending support for fossil fuels.

[Press release] Further engagement by institutional investors requested Mitsui & Co.’s new gas development and introduction of ammonia co-firing at coal fired power plants do not align with 1.5 degrees target
Five Japanese environmental organizations sent a letter in August to 38 major shareholders of Mitsui & Co., requesting to engage and urge the company officials to reconsider its participation in new fossil gas projects including Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) and also introduction of ammonia co-firing at coal fired power plants, which do not align with the Paris Agreement and the net-zero commitment of the company.
