2022 Scorecard on Insurance, Fossil Fuels, and the Climate Emergency: With new coal uninsurable, insurers start to move on oil and gas
Insurance company restrictions on oil and gas are finally starting to catch up with those on coal, according to new data from the Insure Our Future campaign. Ahead of COP27, the campaign coalition argues that insurers must now fully exit new coal, oil and gas, and demonstrate that the industry is ready to deliver on its net zero commitments.

[Press release] Further engagement by institutional investors requested Mitsui & Co.’s new gas development and introduction of ammonia co-firing at coal fired power plants do not align with 1.5 degrees target
Five Japanese environmental organizations sent a letter in August to 38 major shareholders of Mitsui & Co., requesting to engage and urge the company officials to reconsider its participation in new fossil gas projects including Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) and also introduction of ammonia co-firing at coal fired power plants, which do not align with the Paris Agreement and the net-zero commitment of the company.

[Joint Statement] Victory for local people and civil society! Japanese government announced to halt its supports for Matarbari 2 and Indramayu coal plants
On June 22, it was reported that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced to halt Official Development Assistance (ODA) to the Matarbari 2 in Bangladesh and the Indramayu coal-fired power project in Indonesia. The decision by the Japanese government is a victory for local residents who have continued to raise their concerns about the projects despite the harsh conditions of possible repression and human rights violations. It is also an achievement for international civil society who have consistently demanded climate justice and human rights protections.
